The boy’s mummified body was taken to Santiago, and now it is located at the Natural History Museum. Mount El Plomo is, without a doubt, the mountain that dominates the valley where Santiago is located. Early in the morning, we will start our climb (6-8 hours) to the summit (5.424 m / 17,795 ft. ). We will climb a zigzag path up a scree slope that will gradually become steeper. Before the glacier, we will pass by an Inca stone wall ceremonial platform that is very well preserved. Here, the boy was adorned before his climb to the tomb and prepared for his death. This is the exact place where we put the crampons on to cross a short stretch of glacial tongue. After this section, the summit will not be far away. We need one more hour to reach the summit. From the mountain top we will have an impressive view of all the Andes Range. Some of the giants like Tupungato (6.570 m / 21,555 ft.), Mercedario (6.770 m / 22,212 ft.) or the highest of all, Aconcagua (6.962 m / 22,841 ft.), will draw our attention.
